NAMI Miami-Dade Recent Accomplishments

  • 3rd Annual Reel Minds: Miami Mental Health Film Festival at University of Miami at the Shalala Center with short films in English and Spanish, expert speakers and testimonials by individuals with a lived experience;
  • Answer two telephone helplines, in English and Spanish;
  • Started a NAMI Advocacy Council;
  • 8 monthly Family Support Group meetings, 4 in English and 4 in Spanish – a new group starting in North Miami soon;
  • 7 monthly Peer Recovery Support Group meetings, 6 in English and 1 in Spanish;
  • Started new “Ending the Silence” Program recruiting 8 young adult presenters;
  • Ending the Silence Presentation at least three times per month;
  • First Young Adult Peer Support Group at the FIU Campus;
  • 4 Family-to-Family Programs, 2 in English and 2 in Spanish;
  • 2 Peer-to-Peer Programs;
  • 5 Peer Recovery Support Group Facilitators Trained;
  • 8 Family-to-Family Teachers Trained;
  • “Train the Trainers” State Training in Washington D.C.: 1 for Family Support Groups, 1 for Family-to-Family Program in English and in Spanish; 2 for Peer Support Groups;
  • Permanent presenter at law enforcement Crisis Intervention Team training (CIT);
  • Board Members are leading key state and local committees, boards and initiatives to reform and improve mental healthcare in our community;
  • Participated in the Miami Foundation’s Give Miami Day for second time; raised over $14, 000 that was matched 1:1 by an anonymous donor;
  • Partnered with Miami-Dade College (TechHire, Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy – ICED), Youth Co-Op, Inc. and University of Miami’s Butler Center for Service and Leadership Partner;
  • Contract with FIU and UM Master’s in Public Health Program to accept candidates to fulfill their Capstone or Field Placement requirement;
  • Two additional NAMI on Campus University groups: Miami-Dade College Kendall and University of Miami; other groups are at Miami-Dade College North and FIU;
  • University of Miami Philadthropy participant;
  • 4 Radio Show Interviews in English and Spanish: NPR, WNMA, AMOR, MAMBI;
  • 2 TV Show Interviews with PBS;
  • Miami-Dade County School Student Services Mental Health Conference presenter;
  • American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting presenter;
  • Outreach Tables throughout the County;
  • Children’s Trust Family Expo participant;
  • Born This Way Foundation – Miami Heat Mental Health Conference participant;
  • Out of Darkness Walk – American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Team.
