NAMI Miami-Dade Recent Accomplishments

  • Presented our newly introduced Ending the Silence youth mental health program at 46 Miami-Dade County School classes/organizations to 1395 students and 189 teachers/adults;
  • Partnered with Miami-Dade Public Schools to bring Ending the Silence to middle and high school students; 
  • First Young Adult Peer Support Group at the FIU Campus twice per month; First Young Adult Family Support Group planned at Albizu University;
  • 4th Annual Mental Health Film Festival Reel Minds at University of Miami at the Shalala Center with short films that were followed with stories of personal lived experiences
  • Answer two telephone helplines in English and Spanish; 
  • Permanent presenter at law enforcement Crisis Intervention Team training (CIT); 
  • Board Members are leading key state and local committees, boards and initiatives to reform and improve mental healthcare in our community; 
  • 7 monthly Family Support Group meetings, 3 in English and 3 in Spanish – a new trilingual –English, Spanish and Creole-  group started in North Miami on April 25th; 
  • 5 monthly Peer Support Group meetings, 4 in English and 1 in Spanish;
  • 7 Family-to-Family Programs, 5 in English and 2 in Spanish; 
  • 2 Peer-to-Peer Programs in English; 
  • Peer Connection Facilitator Training;  
  • Sent 3 people to Peer-to-Peer Mentor Training; 
  • Sent 5 people to State Training in Washington to become a “Train the Trainer”;
  • Partnered with Miami-Dade College, Johnson and Wales University,  University of Miami, FIU and Nova Southeastern University;  
  • Three additional NAMI on Campus University groups are planned:  Albizu University, University of Miami and Miami Dade College Homestead will be added to the current groups at Miami-Dade College North and FIU; 
  • Participated in the Miami Foundation’s Give Miami Day for second time raising over $21,000;   
  • Provide monthly Speaker Meetings with local and national thought leaders; 
  • Out of Darkness Walk- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention participant annually
